LANCASTER UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

Voted as The Times & Sunday Times University of the Year 2018, Lancaster University is world reknowned for its facilities and the high standards of education it provides to students.

BLE Smoke and Fire Curtains were approached directly by Lancaster University to supply eight FC2 Fire Curtains for their Central Library on their main campus. As part of their fire strategy plan, four large curtains were needed in the library’s main reception - to protect the library’s main fire escape route. An additional four small curtains were also required for the upper levels, to prevent the spread of fire upwards through the library.

Speaking of the project, BLE’s UK Contracts Manager Chris Carratt has said, “The main challenge of this project was installing outside of term time, to minimise disruption to students. Therefore we split the installation into two phases - the first which took place during the University’s Winter break, the second during their Summer break. This strategy worked extremely well, giving BLE the time needed to complete the installation, without impacting the library’s services.”
