DELHI METRO

On February 23 2011 at 2pm, the new Airport Metro Express was unveiled in Delhi, elevating India’s capital city to the ranks of only a handful of cities across the world to boast a high-speed rail link connecting the city with its International Airport.

However, when the consortium that built and operate the new line, Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL), were looking for fire protection, they went half way around the world to Sheffield-based BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains for their market-leading smoke and fire barriers. BLE was introduced through the Managing Director of Transcend Exim Pvt Limited, Mr Kamlesh.K.Malik, who was already working with Reliance, the owners of DAMEPL.

The smoke and fire barriers provided by BLE have been used to protect and compartmentalise the metro’s operational and retail areas. David Millington, Divisional Director of BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains, commented, "This was a fantastic project for BLE to be involved in, and it was a pleasure working with our new agent in the region, Transcend Exim Pvt Limited."

The new Airport Metro Express dramatically improves commuting to and from the impressive new Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. Six stations have been created on this new line: New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, IGI Airport and Dwarka Sec-21 are already open and Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Aero City will open at a later date. There are also shopping centres at the New Delhi & Shivaji Stadium stations.
